Figures-sarjan teokset pohjautuvat kohtaamisiin, joissa toisen kulttuurisen ympäristön erilaiset estetiikat ja visuaalinen rikkaus ovat inspiroineet minua. Värien intensiivisyys, tekstiilien kuviot, ornamentit ja erilaisten materiaalien yhdistely limittyvät teoksissa valon ja pimeyden teemoihin. Kirkkaan päivän häikäisevä valo ja yön syvä tummuus toimivat metaforana näkyvälle ja piilotetulle, tutulle ja vieraalle sekä kuulumiselle ja ulkopuolisuudelle. Muotokuvissa kankaiset painokuvioidut kehykset sekä kasvokirjonta ovat olennainen osa teoksen sisältöä ja identiteetin tulkintaa.
The works in the Figures series are rooted in encounters in which the diverse aesthetics and visual richness of other cultural environments have inspired me. The intensity of colour, textile patterns, ornamentation, and the combination of different materials intertwine with themes of light and darkness. The dazzling brightness of daylight and the deep darkness of night function as metaphors for the visible and the hidden, the familiar and the unfamiliar, as well as belonging and exclusion. In these portraits, printed textile frames and facial embroidery form an integral part of the work’s content and its interpretation of identity.
